CENTRELINE THEORY
There are many a different interpretation of the centreline theory or ' JUNG SIN LAY ' A complete understanding about the three basic concepts; The Vertical midline (or "Motherline"), the centreline and the straightline are very essential for the application of wing chun.
The body rotates around the vertical midline that passes through the body, dividing exactly into two halves. This vertical line is also called the motherline or core centre (as it is where the centre of gravity lies)
Some define it is as the vertical axis of the rotation for the human body. The vertical midline does not change when the body pivots.
The centreline originates from the motherline. The principle of wing chun is to direct the strike towards the centreline. As striking attack can be employed on or near the centreline such as heat, lungs, intestine, stomach, groin, etc., which may at times prove to be very fatal. A wing cun practitioner understands this concept and trains to attack and protect the central area at all times. He or she can very easily locate the vulnerable point i.e., eyes, nose, throat, chest, abdomen, etc., and focus the strike to one target, rather than trying to strike several areas. When it is difficult to strike the enemy is moving constantly, the student has to focus his or her strike towards the centreline.
A thorough study of body structure (physics), human anatomy, chinese acupuncture, etc., are essential to wing chun. This enables the wing chun student to use the correct energy(Chi) required to deliver effective strikes to the straightest possible target area(straightline) to break the enemy's structure. A straightline is an horizontal imaginary line drawn from the central area of the practioner to that of the enemy. This is the application of speed and force of impact.rgest kung fu organizations. With students in Europe, USA, South Africa, Australia, India, Brazil and other countries it has now become international. Grandmaster Samuel Kwok has many students teaching for him.
